Negative-equity, debt-laden mortgage-services play whose first 'profit' in years is razor-thin and not from operations — not investable.

Stockholders' equity -$110M · FY2025

The read

Weak on both the fundamentals and the price — little to like at the current level.

Altisource is a structurally impaired business dressed up by one favorable line. FY2025 revenue grew a respectable 6.8% to $171M and the company swung to a $1.93M net profit, but that is where the good news ends. Operating income collapsed 87% to just $417K (a 0.2% operating margin) and gross profit actually shrank 1.2% — so the bottom-line 'profit' is not coming from the core business; it is a thin residual likely driven by non-operating items, while operating cash flow remained negative at -$5.07M. A company that cannot generate cash from operations and earns a 1.1% net margin is not yet a turnaround, it is a survival story. The P/E of 49 on $0.15 of distorted EPS (shares fell 87% YoY, consistent with a reverse split that mechanically inflates per-share figures) values that residual richly.

The balance sheet is the disqualifier. Stockholders' equity is negative $110M against $190M of long-term debt, $26.6M of cash, and a $364M accumulated deficit. Market cap is $82.9M — less than half the debt — meaning the equity is effectively a levered option on refinancing $190M of borrowings while the operating business burns cash. The MD&A ties forecasts and goodwill recoverability directly to 'rates of residential mortgage delinquencies, defaults, foreclosures and REO volume'; the franchise is countercyclical and depends on housing distress that has been muted, which is precisely why revenue sits well below the $178M of FY2021 even after this year's bounce.
