Solid, debt-light Florida restaurant/liquor microcap, but thin 2.5% margins and a full 17x P/E cap the upside — own, don't chase.

Revenue $205M · FY2025

The read

Middling fundamentals offset by an attractive price (~105% below fair value) — worth a look on the value angle.

Flanigan's is a conservatively run, family-controlled operator of 32 restaurant and package-liquor units in Florida, and the top line is healthy: FY2025 revenue grew 9.6% to $205M, with comparable weekly restaurant food sales up 5.8% and package-store sales up sharply. The MD&A is candid that much of this is price-driven — multiple bar/food menu increases (e.g. +4.90% bar, +4.14% food) plus a full year of the new Hollywood (#19R) store — rather than pure traffic, so the growth is more inflation pass-through than unit-economics expansion. The balance sheet is the standout: $65.2M equity against $61.5M liabilities (0.94x), ~$20.1M cash roughly offsetting ~$20.6M total debt, $10.5M operating cash flow, and a small but rising dividend. This is not a company at risk.

The problem is profitability. Net income of $5.03M is up 50% YoY, but that rebound is off a badly depressed base: net income fell from $11.8M in FY2021 to $3.36M in FY2024 before recovering — FY2025 is still less than half the 2021 peak even as revenue grew ~50% over the same span. Net margin is just 2.5% and ROE only 7.7%. The Risk Factors explain why: relentless labor-cost inflation, Florida's $14.00 minimum wage and tip-credit pressure, and staffing difficulty — structural headwinds that have repeatedly outrun the company's ability to price. The consolidation of affiliated limited-partnership restaurants and heavy related-party franchising (four of five franchisees are family) also muddy the earnings quality.
