Cash-generative cord-blood annuity trading at ~5x operating cash flow, but stalled, GAAP-loss-making, with negative equity and $319K cash.

Operating cash flow $5.48M · FY2025

Cryo-Cell is a cord-blood/cord-tissue storage business with an annuity core: it stores 250,000+ specimens and collects recurring storage fees, which is why it threw off $5.48M of operating cash flow on $31.6M of revenue in FY2025. That cash generation is the whole reason this is a 'hold' and not a 'sell' — at a $26.9M market cap the stock trades around 5x OCF and 0.9x sales, so the market is already pricing in the trouble. The large liability base ($80.3M vs. $61.7M assets, driving equity to -$18.6M) is at least partly the deferred-revenue nature of lifetime/prepaid storage plans typical of this model, so the negative book equity overstates distress relative to a leveraged company.

But the operating trend is genuinely weak, not just optically ugly. Revenue has flatlined for five years ($28.9M→$30.3M→$31.3M→$32.0M→$31.6M) and actually slipped -1.3% this year, so there is no growth to underwrite. Operating income collapsed 86% to just $482K and the company swung to a -$2.43M net loss and -$0.30 diluted EPS. Liquidity is the sharpest concern: cash fell 43% to only $319K, yet management raised dividends 60% to $3.23M — a ~59% payout of operating cash flow funded off a near-empty cash balance, which leaves no cushion for any operational stumble or working-capital swing.
