Deep-value turnaround: trades below net-heavy book at ~1x cash flow, but revenue keeps shrinking and tariffs hit its whole factory base.
Revenue $368M · FY2025
UEIC is a classic cheap-but-shrinking story. Revenue has fallen every year since 2021 — $602M → $543M → $420M → $395M → $368M — a 39% erosion over four years, and 2025's 6.7% decline shows the bleed hasn't stopped. The company is still net-unprofitable (-$18.6M, -5.1% net margin, -12.7% ROE) and, oddly, paid $6.6M of income tax on a pretax loss, so reported losses persist even as the operating line heals. On fundamentals alone this is a low-quality, declining business in consumer durables — not something the quality lens rewards.
What keeps it from an outright sell is the balance sheet and cash generation set against a tiny valuation. Operating loss narrowed sharply to -$6.4M from -$15.3M (management credits opex falling to 30.6% of sales from 32.7%), gross margin held at 28.9%, and operating cash flow jumped 59% to $23.6M against just $3.9M of capex — roughly $19–20M of free cash flow. Yet the whole company is priced at $61.4M with $32.3M of cash and no current debt, so enterprise value is only ~$29M — barely over 1x operating cash flow — and the stock trades at ~0.42x its $146M book and 0.2x sales. Half the market cap is cash, and the firm is buying back stock ($3.1M).
